A humanist ceremony lets you express your love and commitment in a way that feels truly meaningful. With the religious and legal elements removed, it gives you the freedom to craft something entirely unique and personal. We can tell your love story, celebrating the moments and experiences that have brought you to this point.

In England, Wales, and the Isle of Man, humanist marriages are not yet legally recognised. That doesn’t mean they’re ‘illegal’ in any way, but it does mean that in these places, couples need to have the ceremony separately from the legal ‘signing of the register’, which is usually done at a local register office a few days before or after a humanist ceremony, or at a separate event on the same day. Couples almost always choose to think of the humanist ceremony as their ‘real’ wedding as it’s the one attended by all their loved ones, where they made their personal and heartfelt vows and included all the creative and bespoke elements they planned with their celebrant.

Humanists believe in living kindly, treating others (and the planet) with empathy and respect. My ceremonies are all about celebrating love and connection to each other and the world around us- the stuff that makes us human. I am a humanist, so there will be that vibe to the ceremony, but don’t worry you don’t have to be a humanist to have an awesome humanist ceremony with me!

I am a Humanist Wedding celebrant trained and accredited by Humanists UK. The training process is very through and detailed. I have been observed and peer assessed. I also have full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance via the Humanists UK Network. It also means if in the extremely unlikely event I was unwell or had an emergency, another celebrant from the network could step in and you would be assured of the same high standard.

You could write your own personal vows, or we can work together to create promises that reflect your journey as a couple and your hopes for the future. I have a blog post with advice on types of vows here.

You can include readings, poems, song lyrics, or something personal to add depth and meaning, and you can invite loved ones to share in this too. Music is another way to set the tone, whether it's a romantic song as you walk down the aisle, or a piece that makes everyone smile and want to sing along! Many couples also choose to include symbolic acts like handfasting (literally ‘tying the knot’ with ribbons) or lighting a unity candle. The length of the ceremony will depend on what you’d like to include, but as a guide, most humanist ceremonies are around 20-45 minutes long.
